Schools have reopened and kids have returned, ready or not!  When I was a kid, we always had a full summer of fun, we started back to school the day after Labor Day.  I remember August as being very hot, very dry (northern Ohio, southern Michigan) and cool under the trees.  We swam a lot, the county pool and an ice cold spring fed natural lake.  August was the time that Watermelon’s finally got ripe in the fields and near my house was a field of Watermelon one year.  They were so pretty oblong green blown up footballs among pretty dark green vines.  Just lying there in the sun soaking up the rays.  And the sound they make when you cut them open when the innards are so juicy that the you get it about half cut when the Watermelon just simply divides itself with a mushy kind of thunk.  And all that red, juicy, fragrant, very sweet goodness inside.  I don’t remember seedless, we always had seeds and if we were eating slices of Cold Watermelon you can bet that we were having seed spitting contests.

So today Amy’s Inkin Krew Blog Hop theme is the “last blast of  summer”.  Since I’m past the Bikini age (and size) I immediately thought of Watermelon.  Researching on Pinterest I came across a card that spoke to me.  It’s done by Darla Watson-Scrap Happens Here.   I changed it up a bit with color and embossing folder.

The card base is Cucumber Crush Card Stock, front is layered with Watermelon Wonder.  the Whisper White Card Stock was embossed using the Stampin’ Up! Lucky Stars Embossing Folder.  (Kind of represents 4th of July).  Basic Black was layered with Whisper White Card stock in a square cut.  Using Cucumber Crush Ink I stamped the sentiment from the new “Thoughtful Branches” Stamp and die set.

To make the Watermelon  I chose Cucumber Crush,  Watermelon Wonder and Whisper White Card Stock.  I chose three sizes of circles that fit together pretty well and die cut them. I then used the ‘grunge spatter pattern stamp” from the Timeless Textures stamp set.  I stamped it off once and using Watermelon Wonder stamped it on the Watermelon Wonder Card Stock.  Then using Cucumber Crush I stamped it off and stamped it on the Cucumber Crush.  The seeds are the bits and pieces from the leaf in the Flourishing Phrases Framelits Set in Basic Black.

I then adhered the Whisper white sheet to the Watermelon Wonder Sheet with SNAIL adhesive.

And of course, it’s summer, eating watermelon outside, spitting the seeds into the grass and the bees come flying. So, I had to add a cut little bee to the upper right corner.  He is the little bee from the Jar of Love Stamp set stamped in Tuxedo Black Ink on Crushed Curry Card Stock and die cut using the matching die from Everyday Jars Framelits.  He has a ‘blingy’ head from an added Rhinestone Jewel.  I attached him with a Stampin’ Dimensional to give him a little definition.

I added Thick Baker’s Twine in Cucumber Crush to the bottom the front of the card and tied it in a bow.  Didn’t like the bow so I just knotted it and kind of frayed the ends of the Twine.

When I was taking photos of this card I couldn’t decide which base color popped this card so I photographed both and wanted to show both.  I think I like the Cucumber Crush best but..then again the Watermelon Wonder if pretty too. The Cucumber Crush has a somewhat cooler look.

And the inside of the card was a  no brainer.  Layered Watermelon Wonder and Whisper White Card Stock.   I had some Watermelon left over and just needed to add the seeds the same way I did on the front.  Adhered with SNAIL adhesive.  Then of course, three little bees heading for their lunch in the Upper Right Corner stamped in Crushed Curry.

The envelope sports the new Washi Tape in three diagonal stripes featuring Cucumber Crush and Watermelon Wonder.

There is a list of the products I used in this project at the very end of this post.
